Our Preparedness Plan includes non-perishable foods on our shelves to last us one year. Then we have canned and stored foods in Mylar Bags to last us up to five years.

The following foods are all popular food staples that should be considered as “must haves” for your Prepper Pantry. The advantages to storing these items is they encompass all of the key consideration points listed above. Best of all, these items are very affordable and versatile, thus making them worthy of being on your storage shelves for extended emergencies.

1. Canned fruits, vegetables, meats and soups
2. Dried legumes (beans, lentils, peas)
3. Rice, lots of Rice
4. Nuts
5. Crackers
6. Peanut butter
7. Pasta and Sauce
8. Cooking oil (corn oil, vegetable oil, coconut oil, olive oil)
9. Seasonings (vanilla, salt, pepper, paprika, cinnamon, pepper, taco seasoning, asian, etc.)
10. Sugar
11. Bouillon cubes or granules (chicken, vegetable, beef)
12. Kitchen staples (flour, cornmeal, baking soda, baking powder, yeast, vinegar)
13. Honey
14. Coffee in a can
15. Jell-O or pudding mixes
16. Whole grains (barley, oats, quinoa, rice, wheat berries)
17. Powdered milk
18. Pancake Mix, just add water type
19. Oatmeal, Cream of Wheat and Cereals
20. Powdered Cheese, parmesan or cheddar
21. Popcorn, old school Jiffy Pop
22. Instant potato flakes
23. Packaged meals (macaroni and cheese, hamburger helper, Ramen noodles, etc.)
24. Fruit juices, teas, coffee, drink mixes
25. Hard Candies

You’ll find most of these items in your pantry already. Try to increase the quantity each week and place them into rotation. Use this list as a starting point on beginning or extending your Prepper Pantry. Always keep your family’s food preferences and dietary needs in mind when investing in your food supply.
